THC Dosing for Edibles 101

Two Ways to Dose Edibles

The Plan-Ahead Method (Best for Precision)

This way, you decide your dose before you cook so every piece is just right.

Step 1. Pick your dose

Example: 10 mg per cookie, 12 cookies = 120 mg total needed.

Step 2. Do the maths first
Cannabis needed = Total THC ÷ (THC% × 1,000 × efficiency)

With 18% THC flower and 80% efficiency:
120 ÷ (0.18 × 1,000 × 0.8) ≈ 0.08 g.
So you only need 0.08 g for the whole batch.

Step 3. Decarb your cannabis

Bake it gently at 110–120°C (230–245°F) for 30–40 minutes.

Step 4. Infuse

Add the cannabis to butter or oil, simmer 30–120 minutes, then strain.

Step 5. Bake

Use the infused fat in your recipe. Each cookie will be right around 10 mg THC.

The Batch-First Method (Best for Convenience)

This way, you make a big batch of cannabutter or oil, then figure out the strength later.

Step 1. Decarb your cannabis

Same as above: 110–120°C for 30–40 minutes.

Step 2. Infuse into fat

Add however much cannabis you want into butter or oil, simmer 30–120 minutes, then strain.

Step 3. Do the maths afterwards
Total THC = Grams of cannabis × THC% × 1,000 × efficiency

Example: 7 g at 18% THC = about 1,000 mg THC after efficiency.

Step 4. Divide into servings

If you use all that butter in 24 brownies, each is about 42 mg. Too strong? Cut the brownies smaller or use less cannabutter next time.

Which Method Should You Use?

Plan-Ahead Method - great if you want perfect, consistent doses.

Batch-First Method - great if you want a big jar of cannabutter ready for different recipes, then work out the dose each time you use it.

THC Potency Formula

THC Potency = (Cannabis weight × THC% × Efficiency) ÷ Number of servings

Note: We include standard efficiency values to account for decarboxylation and infusion loss.

Calculate THC per Serving

THC per serving (mg) =
(Cannabis × THC% × 1000 × Efficiency) ÷ Servings

Calculate Cannabis Amount Needed

Cannabis (g) =
(Target dose × Servings) ÷ (THC% × 1000 × Efficiency)

Cannabis Edibles Dosage Calculator

This free cannabis edible dosing calculator helps you determine the precise THC content in your homemade edibles. Whether you're making brownies, gummies, or any cannabis-infused food, accurate dosing is essential for safety and consistency.

Cannabis Dosing Guidelines:
  • Beginners: Start with 2.5-5mg THC per serving
  • Moderate users: 5-10mg THC per serving
  • Experienced users: 10-20mg THC per serving
  • High tolerance: 20mg+ THC per serving
Tips for Safe Edible Consumption:
  • Always start with a low dose and wait 2-4 hours before consuming more
  • Edibles take longer to take effect compared to smoking or vaping
  • Keep edibles away from children and pets
  • Label your edibles clearly with THC content
  • Store in a cool, dry place to maintain potency

This calculator uses standard decarboxylation and extraction efficiency rates to provide accurate estimates. For best results, use lab-tested cannabis with known THC percentages and follow proper decarboxylation procedures.
